Basket Weave Fingerless Gloves

Basket Weave Fingerless Gloves

My mother made wrist warmers for me and this is a modified version of it. Basket weave in the round is not difficult but it does go slow. But it is beautiful and with variegated yarn, it looks even stunning!

Size 6 needles

Diagonal Basket Weave in the Round Pattern

Directions
  • Divide your skein: into two balls. If you have a scale, measure it to divide the skein evenly.
  • Cast on: With size 4 needles, CO 36.
  • Garter rows
    • Round 1: Join and P in the round.
    • Round 2: K
    • Round 3: P. Now you have two garter ridges.
  • Increase row: Switch to size 6 needles. K4, M1. 9 sts increased, 45 sts total.
  • Wrist: See the instruction of diagonal basket weave in the round. Work in the pattern for 4.5" from the bottom.
  • Thumb hole
    • Round 1: Using waste yarn, put 8 sts. Finish the row in the pattern.
    • Round 2: CO 8 sts using cable cast on method. (You need to turn your wok for this part.) Finish the row in the pattern.
  • Hand: Continue working in the pattern for 1.5"
  • Decrease row: Switch to size 4 needles. *P2, P2tog* repeat to last st, P. 11 sets decreased, 34 sets total.
  • Garter rows
    • Round 1: K
    • Round 2: P. Now you have 2 garter ridges.
    • Bind off knit wise.
  • (Optional) Reverse single crochet: if you still have yarn left. Or you can skip this crochet row.
  • Thumb: Using size 4 needle, put the 8 sts in the waste yarn back on your needle. Pick up 8 sts. 16 sts total.
    • Round 1: P
    • Round 2: K
    • Round 3 &4: repeat R1 & R2.

This is what my mom made for me. Just a hole for thumbs. No increase or decrease. I don't know what pattern she used but I'll ask mom if you want to find out!
